Italian Chef Massimo Bottura Awarded “Nobel” of Gastronomy

April 1, 2014

Massimo Bottura, the owner of 3-Michelin star “Osteria Francescana” in Modena and undoubtedly Italy’s most renown chef, has just added one more award to his already long list of accolades, the prestigious 2014 White Guide Global Gastronomy Award.

This relatively young but coveted award is given to chefs that inspire others and it is already referred to as the “Nobel prize” of gastronomy. Bottura was honored this year for “continually renewing one of the world’s most beloved kitchen – the Italian – and adding new dimensions to the senses and mind to explore and enjoy,” according to a press release.

Bottura’s “Osteria Francescana” ranks third on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

Previous winners of the White Guide Global Gastronomy award:

2007: Ferran Adrià, El Bulli, Roses, Spain
2008: Charlie Trotter, Charlie Trotter’s, Chicago, USA
2009: Fergus Henderson, St. John, London, England
2010: René Redzepi, Noma, Copenhagen, Denmark
2011: Alain Passard, L’arpège, Paris, France
2012: David Chang, Momofuko, New York, USA
2013: Gastòn Acurio, Astrid y Gaston, Lima, Peru

Here’s a peak into the Bottura’s fascinating world:

Together with the chef, we meet artists from the transavantgarde movement, a cherry farmer who has brought an almost-extinct flavour back to life, and taste-keepers of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
