Ingredients

??? garlic, crushed ???
??? celery, diced ???
??? onions, chopped ???
??? green peppers, diced ???
??? canola oil ???
??? sugar ???
??? canned tomatoes, low sodium ???
??? fresh basil ???
??? cloves ???
??? bay leaf ???
??? ground pepper ???
??? cornstarch ???
??? water ???

Method

  1. Sauté garlic, celery, onion and green pepper in oil until tender but not brown.
  2. Add sugar, tomatoes and seasonings. Simmer for a few minutes.
  3. Remove the bay leaf. Add the cornstarch mixed with cold water and cook to thicken sauce.
  4. Serve sauce (4 tbsp per serving) on rice (1/2 cup per serving).
